The current 2014 F-150 comes with either a 3.7L V6, a 3.5L EcoBoost V6, a 5.0L V8 or a 6.2L V8. The 6.2L looks to end its life in the 2015 F-150. It primarily appeared in the SVT Raptor, but was also available in the XLT.

Ford 2015, Ford is also dropping the 3.7L V6 and replacing it with a 3.5L V6. This engine can run on E85 or regular unleaded and should provide better horsepower and fuel economy than the previous 3.7L.

Ford is also introducing a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 to the F-150 product line. This engine ran the most recent Baja 1000 for durability testing.

We do not see any real reason to wait for the new engines, unless you want the brand new engines. They interest us, but we don’t see a compelling reason to hold off buying a F-150 just to get the new engine. If you have to have the 6.2L V8, definitely get the 2014. If you want ease of maintenance you still want to look at the 5.0L V8 which will be in both the 2014 and 2015 F-150.
