At the Ford Trends conference back in June, Ford unveiled a new pickup truck. The F-150 Tremor is basically a short cab, short bed version of the FX series of truck. It features a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 making 365hp and 420lb/ft of torque. Combined with a lightweight setup (well, lighter than a normal F-150) the truck should be a serious performer. It recently paced a NASCAR race in Michigan, and was featured prominently on the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Up close, the Tremor does resemble a normal F-150 truck with the FX2 or FX4 package. It is a little strange seeing a regular-cab vehicle with a higher trim level, but the truck appears smaller because of it. Some nice exterior touches, beside the badging, are the Raptor black HID headlamps and the blacked out wheels.

Under the hood, the EcoBoost V6 sits back near the firewall, helping with weight distribution. A big radiator and intercooler feed cool air to the motor, and should make it easy for tuners to get more out of the motor. The beauty of a turbo motor is the ability to gain more power, and tuners are already making 50-60hp and 100lbs/ft of torque or more for less than $500 out of the same engine.

It is interesting to note that this truck is NOT designed to be a replacement for the F-150 SVT Lightning of the past (which was considerably more expensive than this truck), but it does make more power from its turbo V6 than the Lightning made from its supercharged V8.

The interior is standard F-150 FX fare. In fact, the gauges say “FX” on them. MyFord Touch is available, and presumably all the Truck Apps will be as well. It would be interesting to see Ford do some performance apps like in the Mustang on this vehicle, but it is doubtful that would happen.
The Tremor in Race Red
The Tremor will be available as a 2WD and 4WD version, and should start at between $23,000 and $27,000. That’s more horsepower than a V6 Mustang in a much more modifiable configuration. It is a tempting proposition that we do look forward to driving.
