The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor is a fast, fun sport pickup that is loads of fun to drive. Although the Ford F-150 Tremor is not as lust-worthy as the Ford F-150 Raptor, this small pickup includes a lot of features to like. Ultimately the F-150 Tremor isn’t the most practical pickup, but fast and practical don’t always go together when it comes to trucks.

With 20-inch rims and sporty tires the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor is at home on the street, but can also handle a drive off-road when you want to have a little more fun. This F-150 Tremor review vehicle is a two-wheel drive model with an electronic locking differential to keep both wheels spinning when you need more traction.

A 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor is a mash-up of upgrades and add-ons that build off the F-150 FX2 and FX4 models. The Tremor and Tremor Plus package add on many of the features we enjoy. After driving this sport pickup for a week to haul drywall, enjoy a fourth of July fishing and shooting trip off-road and a speedy trip up the interstate that included a friendly chat with the State Highway patrol, here’s what we think of the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor.

The video, shot through Google Glass, is as close as you’ll get to driving the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor without putting some miles on your own truck to find one in stock at a local dealer.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor Price

The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor price is the toughest thing for buyers to get over. The base 2014 F-150 starts at $25,025, and jumping up to a Tremor on the FX 2 pushes the price above $40,000.

The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor price is one downside to an otherwise fun and fast sport pickup.

For the two-wheel drive 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle we tested, expect to pay $42,210. Granted this includes a lot of nice options, but it is still an expensive truck.

For comparison, the 2014 F-150 Raptor SVT starts at $44,995, which includes a bigger cab and a 6.3L V8 engine. The price gap widens as you add features to the F-150 Raptor, but buyers should take note.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor Performance & Driving

Driving the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor is a pleasure, but you will feel potholes and bumps while you are in the vehicle. On road and off, this truck performs well, but we especially enjoyed putting the sport part of this sport pickup to the test while on blacktop.

The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle features a 3.6L V6 EcoBoost Engine with an electric six-speed automatic transmission, complete with a tow haul mode. Ford includes a Selectshift transmission that lets the driver manually control the shifting and a 4.10 electronic locking rear axle. This model also includes a trailer brake and trailer sway control. Four large 20-inch aluminum rims and Pirelli Scorpion STR tires grip the road.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor 0-60

There is no mistaking the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor for just another work pickup truck. In addition to the dominating appearance it is fast. The video below shows the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor 0-60 speed on a truck that is stock except a MPT 93 Tune.

When you want to go, the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor is fast off the line with a quick acceleration that is best described as fun. Driving at a reasonable speed and slowly accelerating to test the fuel economy proved challenging with this much power at our disposal. When you are already at speed and decide you need to pass a slow car, or just want to give it more power, there is also a lot of pep in speeding up.

At times you may find yourself going too fast in the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor, but someone will remind you to slow down.

At times you may find yourself going too fast in the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor, but someone will remind you to slow down.

All this speed, and the sporty look of the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle, attracted a lot of attention from other drivers and from pedestrians while stopping for a quick break on a road trip.  It can also, we found, attract the wrong kind of attention.

We took the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle off-road several times during this review and it performed well. Thanks to the large tires and suspension it sits high enough to drive over a large hill to access a great fishing spot. The truck is also small enough to slide into a narrow opening where we put in some target practice on the 4th of July. While leaving, the wheels spun on wet grass, but eventually bit in and pulled us over the crest.

Large wheels and a high ride on the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle make it possible to climb steep hills like this to access good fishing and other off road areas.

The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor steering is a little light, but overall the truck is easy to maneuver and to get around with a backup camera. The ride is comfortable for long and short trips.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor fuel economy is not far off from the stock F-150, but the EPA estimate loses 1 MPG. In our test the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor delivered 17.7MPG mixed and 20.9MPG highway.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor Looks & Interior

The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor’s looks match the speed hidden under the hood. HID headlights, big rims and a Mustang Boss style decal on the hood and side of the Tremor scream, “Look at me!” Black tubular running boards make it easy to step up into the Tremor and a Tremor sticker adorns the rear quarter panel. Overall we love this look, but up close you see the outline of the sticker that doesn’t match the look and feel of the car.

Inside the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle there is enough room for two, a lot of cup holders and room for bags.

Inside the Tremor offers an excellent field of view for the driver, with a panoramic look from one window to the other, thanks to small A pillars on each side of the windshield. Looking out the back window can be a challenge on roads that intersect at an odd angle, but this is a minor issue that drivers will learn to compensate for.

There is a lot of room for the driver and one passenger inside the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor. Drivers large and small can adjust the seat to feel at home inside of this truck. One passenger complained that the dash goes down to far in the passenger area, but most riders could fit their legs under the lip at the bottom with room to spare.

The center console is massive, with room to lock up important items you ned to leave in the car. In front is a floor shifter that sits at the same level as the cupholders. In all there are six cupholders in the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor, which can seat two people, so you won’t go thirsty.

Behind the seats there is about a foot of storage room. This is enough for a backpack or tackle box, a firearm or a few groceries, but not much else. Anything bigger will need to go in the 6.5 foot long bed.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor Tech & Features

The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle includes MyFord Touch, Truck apps and several features that we found impressive during our week with the sport pickup.

MyFord Touch is similar to what you’ll find in any Ford with the option, but in the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor the climate controls are only physical buttons on the dash with no automatic temperature or dual control settings. We still long for AppLink for MyFord Touch, but it is not available, leaving us to control any streaming music by picking up the phone (at least to get it started).

Inside users get MyFord Touch, but temperature control is all manual with buttons on the dash.

Making and taking phone calls in the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor is a breeze with steering wheel controls and thanks to the microphone near the visor. Phone calls sound good over the stereo, leaving hands free to drive. the steering wheel includes controls for Truck apps, media, cruise control and voice control.

With MyFord Touch you can play Sirius Radio, FM radio and music form a smartphone over USB or Bluetooth. The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor speaker system sounds OK, but there is very little bass to be found. In a $40,000 truck it would be great for Ford to include a better speaker package.

There are two USB ports in the center console for connecting to the MyFord Touch system and charging phones. There are also two 12V charging ports in the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor and a 110 outlet on the back of the console that can charge a laptop or other gadget that 12V just can’t power. This is a nice addition, which we used to keep a MacBook Pro Retina charged on the go.

The small 4.2-inch display in the center of the instrument cluster shows fuel economy, with multiple settings and an instant fuel economy reading, which drops off as you mash the throttle. This small screen is also where the F-150 Truck apps exist. Owners can use the Off road Truck app to see the how much the Tremor is leaning in any direction and how much the wheels are turned to make better off-road driving decisions.

There is also a F-150 Trailer app that remembers your trailers and guides you through connection steps. This will also help users set up Trailer Sway control and Trailer brake settings.

The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor bed is 6.5 feet long and a little over 21-inches deep. The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle arrived equipped with a bed extender that is a must have accessory. This came in handy while hauling drywall, and also can keep what you’re hauling to the back of the bed when you don’t need a longer bed.

Opt for the factory spray in bedliner if you want to protect the bed from scratches and dents. After a light rain, all traces of hauling drywall, white marble rock and muddy waders disappeared from the Tremor’s bed. There are four tie-downs built-in to the side of the bed that make securing loads very easy. It certainly beats looking for small openings under the lip, like most older trucks offer.

As part of the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor Plus package owners also gain a step up and a fold up handle to make entering and exiting the high bed easier.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor Review Verdict

Ford succeeded in making a sport pickup that is fun to drive on the street and off-road when you need to go the last mile to a campsite or whatever outdoor fun you are ready for. The 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor delivers a spacious cabin for two passengers and room for a few small bags as well as a bed that can haul almost anything else. Driving for a two-hour round trip up to the border delivered a comfortable experience, though you will feel potholes.

As tested the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor review vehicle includes many options that are essential to the experience we enjoyed, which does push the price up to $42,210 as equipped.

After spending a week with the truck, the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor price remains the biggest hurdle for a potential buyer. There is no doubt that the Tremor is fun to drive, but at this price buyers may take pause. Fortunately for Ford there aren’t a lot of options, which means the limited number of 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor vehicles are tough to find at dealerships.
