Black Friday is rapidly approaching, and while finding the right deals is important, it is also extremely important to have the right vehicle to pick up those deals. One of the best deals this coming Black Friday is Walmart’s 70″ Vizio television for $998. Even though television dimensions are getting smaller and smaller, the screens themselves are getting larger and hauling a television like this home requires some planning ahead. For a 70″ television to fit in a box, the box needs to be 69.09″ long by 41.5″ wide. That is nearly 6 feet in length! Here are a few vehicles that can, and cannot, be used.
Vizio’s 70″ television is a great Black Friday Walmart deal, but will it fit in your car?
Who wouldn’t want to go Black Friday shopping in a Ford Raptor? Just the menacing nature of the truck would cause the crowds to spread making it easier to get to that television? But alas, bringing this truck ultimately will result in a big Black Friday fail. The bed is not big enough to haul the television home!
Even though the Raptor would make a menacing Black Friday shopper, its bed is simply too short for the big Walmart television!
Ford’s über-truck sports a 5.5′ bed. With only 66″ of storage space, the televisions 69.09″ box simply will not fit. If taking a Ford F-150, it must have the 6′ or 8′ bed.
The Toyota Tacoma fairs a bit better, actually. As long as it is not a Double Cab (the big, four-door version), the length of the bed will let the television fit. At 41.5″, the width of the bed between the wheel wells is identical to the width of the television box. It will be a snug fit, but it will fit.
The television would be a snug, but secure fit in most Tacoma pickups.
Have a Toyota Sienna minivan? Great! Fold the third row flat and push the second row as far forward as possible and it will fit flat with just a couple of inches to spare!
The newer version of the Nissan Quest should also work, even if removing the second row is required. Previous Quest minivans had a hatch that wasn’t really that wide, making the entry to the cargo space narrower than it needed to be.
The Nissan Quest also has ample storage, as long as the seats are moved or removed.
In the SUV department, Toyota’s RAV4 squeezes out enough cargo space to haul that television home (assuming the rear seats are folded flat).
What is important to remember here is that the larger the vehicle, the better. The box is nearly 6′ long and 3.5′ wide. That requires a LOT of space in the back of even the largest of vehicles (and typically requires folding or removal of seats). Trying to take this home in a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla simply isn’t going to work.
When measuring (and you SHOULD measure), make sure the gaps into the vehicle are big enough to fit. Some stylized vehicles have smaller openings to the cargo area to complete the design of the vehicle.
Also, if you are not driving two vehicles, leave the child-seat aged children home. Even a full-sized minivan or SUV will require seats to be folded flat or pushed forward to where they cannot be used. Remember, children do NOT belong in the front seat.
Plan and measure the vehicle before Black Friday, so that if another vehicle needs to be borrowed there is enough time to do so. A 70″ television seems like an epic idea until it needs to be transported home. Make sure you are prepared!
