[tps_title]Maintenance Required Light[/tps_title]

check engine light

The maintenance required light will take many different forms depending on the manufacturer. Usually the car maker includes a wrench icon. On Ford products, the icon is just the wrench.

Maintenance required can vary by vehicle, but typically means it is time for an oil change. Some cars’ lights are just a mileage counter; every 5,000 miles they light up. Others use sensors and computers to determine if it’s time for an oil change.

This light typically lights up before the maintenance is actually required, to give you time to schedule the appointment. You should follow the maintenance schedule of your vehicle, outlined in your owner’s manual, to keep the car running smoothly.

Some shops forget to reset this light after performing the service. For many cars it’s best to look at the mileage since the last oil change as your guide and not the warning light.
