[tps_title]Tire Pressure Monitoring System Light[/tps_title]

check engine light

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light will illuminate when the tire pressure in one of your tires is lower than it should be. This could indicate a slow leak in your tire, or a tire having gone completely flat.

TPMS sensors attach to the valve stems of your tires and monitor pressure. These sensors are required by law. They can also be temperamental especially in changing climates.

If you experience this light on the road, you should stop and check to make sure your tire isn’t flat. A good tire pressure gauge should be in your glovebox for these types of checks. Your owner’s manual or sticker on your driver’s side door gap will show you how much air should be in your tires.

If it’s low, refill the tire with air as soon as possible and monitor it for a slow leak. If the tire isn’t low, there might be an issue with the sensor. If the air temperature outside recently changed, that could explain it.

If the temperature hasn’t changed and the tires are properly inflated, one of two things could be causing the light. First, check the tire pressure of the car’s spare tire. Some manufacturers put TPMS sensors in the spare tire and that could trigger the light. Otherwise, have the car looked at by a mechanic. One of the sensors could be defective.
